Pre-Pandemic to Present: Freight earnings began at ₹1.27 lakh crore in FY 2019 and witnessed a brief decline in FY 2020 (₹1.13 lakh crore) due to the initial impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Strong Recovery: From FY 2021 onward, there was a consistent and robust recovery, reaching ₹1.65 lakh crore by March 2024.
Current Fiscal Year (till October 2024): With ₹99,291 crore already earned in just the first 7 months, goods earnings are on track to possibly exceed previous years, underlining Indian Railways’ strong freight operations and logistics backbone.
